Love tragedies have been over the centuries the motto to the musical creation of many composers. Legends, myths from Greek tragedies, or even plays from some of the greatest writers such as Shakespeare, have inspired composers’ music writing, arising feelings such as despair, suffering, revolt, anger, resulting in the character’s madness. Since early baroque repertoire, there is a huge number of musical pieces from which romantic fatalism emerges. This program goes through some of these genre intersections, with tragic love as its main theme.
